Attending: Nathan Vogl, Kate MacKay, Barbara Rowan, Jessie Caldwell, Sarah Hendrychowski, Chris Clark, Tony Susnik, Macrea Coleman, Dorothy Strike Chawona Jackson, Elsye Beier and Jackie Davis Absent: Latosha Purdy, Candace Mohalski and Vanessa Clayborn Visitors: None Minutes: Minutes from September 22, 2006, were read by Chawona Jackson; Kate MacKay moved that the minutes be approved and Tony Susnik 2nd the motion. Motion carried. Agenda: President Report: Christopher Clark encouraged Senate members to schedule a time to spend in the senate office to be available to the student body. He also thanked the members that do make an effort to be available in the office, and stressed the importance for all active members to do so. A sign-in sheet will follow. Secretary Report: Jackie Davis offered a word of thanks to all those who helped her with the last meetings minutes. Treasury Report: Nathan Vogl reported that we have $1,764.74 in the student senate account. Committee Report: American Student Association of Community Colleges Christopher Clark and Jerrold OSullivan attended the ASACC National Conference in Washington D.C. Jerry presented the Citizens Around The World project. The project was successful. Kathy McCain; president of the Mequon student senate has accepted the position of the Great Lakes Regional Director for ASACC. A delegation of six student senators visited the offices of Feingold, Sensenbrenner, Kohl, and Moore. Pell Grant levels were discussed and how important nontraditional students are in education. Applications will be available in December for students who would like to go to Washington for the next conference on March 17 through the 20, 2007. Wisconsin Student Government Christopher Clark will be attending the Rhinelander Conference which will be held from October 12 to October 14. Area Student Senate Board/ Student Life Committee The next meeting has been scheduled for October 11, at 3:00 p.m. Christopher Clark will be attending the meeting along with either Nathan Vogl or Jackie Davis. Committee Establishments Committees that need to be established are: Community Relations, Research and Development, and Legislative. Sign-up sheets were circulated for the various committees. Research and Development Committee Tony Susnik spoke with Archie Graham about his research on the parking issue, and his thoughts on the U-Pass being reinstated. Tony paid a visit to the Student Nursing Center downtown. The facility is still available but is in need of staffing. The research and development committee will continue to work on these issues. Old Business: None New Business: Chris opened the floor for new business. Project 5,000 Get Out The Vote The object of this project is to encourage students to get out and vote during the elections. A sign-up sheet was circulated within the senate for members to volunteer for this project. A slide show presentation obtained from the ASACC conference will be available for viewing by all students working on the project. Attendance of Senate members addressed Chawona Jackson moved to have letters mailed and phone calls made to members who are absent from two or more meetings. A letter of warning would be sent out to members that continuously miss senate meetings. Nathan Vogl 2nd the motion. The motion was carried. Elyse Beier moved that we schedule our meetings for the first and third Friday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Nathan Vogl 2nd the motion. Motion carried. Tony suggested that we contact the absent members to make sure the new Schedule is not conflicting with their schedule. Announcements: Updated photos for the Senate Board will be taken. Tickets for The Fright Fest are nearly sold out. Ticket price is $30 which $10 of the fee will be refunded if students take the bus that will be provided. The V.P. Breakfast is October 19 at 7:30 a.m. Hypnotist Jim Wand will be coming to the West campus on October 19, at 11:30 a.m. Students may sign up to participate in activities for the performance. MATC Student Clubs Leadership Retreat Registration forms are available for those students attending the retreat. The registration fee is $10. Senate members can attend the retreat for no cost. The next meeting will be held on October 20, 2006.
